Connecting and enabling our communities

It takes a village to raise a child – this African proverb means that an entire community of people must interact with and safeguard children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment.

We believe this has been lost in many communities around the world and want to bring the village back.

Unlikely heroes

MISSION

Unlikely Heroes is a nonprofit whose mission is to rescue, restore and rehabilitate child victims of sex slavery.

WHAT THEY DO

Unlikely Heroes provides safe homes to child victims of sex trafficking. They are dedicated to the restoration of child survivors of sexual abuse, trafficking, or exploitation with excellence through a holistic, cross-cultural, and individualized care model. Unlikely Heroes also provides aftercare services to adult survivors of sex trafficking through Elevate Academy, a dynamic survivor-led program that crosses geographic limitations and provides, healing, mentorship, life skills, job training, and life coaching – empowering survivors to find wholeness and live out their dreams.

VISION

That all girls and boys would be able to live a life of freedom, peace, and opportunity.

IMPACT

Since 2011, UH has provided safety to 400 children. They have opened 6 restoration homes in 4 countries around the world that have provided every child with safe housing, medical care, trauma therapy, education, and job training. AND THEY ARE JUST GETTING STARTED.

Why we partner with Unlikely Heroes

We believe that no child should experience exploitation of any kind. However, many do face exploitation. Unlikely Heroes makes healing possible for each child who comes into their care. We support giving futures back. Unlikely Heroes is doing just that.

Child advocacy center of collin county

MISSION

The Child Advocacy Center of Collin County is dedicated to the safety, healing, and justice for children victimized by abuse or neglect in our community.

WHAT THEY DO

The CAC of Collin County provides core services to over 4,500 children who are reported abused and neglected in Collin County each year. Core services provided by the center are: Forensic Interviews, Family Advocacy and Support Services, Lifetime Therapeutic Counseling, and Community Education.

Children Advocacy Centers provide a safe, child-friendly environment where law enforcement, Texas Department of Family Protective Services, prosecution, medical and mental health professionals may share information to develop effective, coordinated strategies that are sensitive to the needs of each unique case and child. The CAC model operates by bringing services to the child instead of the child going from place to place to tell their stories and get help.

VISION

To have a community free of child abuse.

IMPACT

In 2019 alone, they provided services to 3,936 total clients; 2406 of those were kids. A total of 22,418 services were provided to those in their community.

Why we support the CAC of Collin County

We believe that changing the world starts first with impacting your local community.

CHANGE THE face of fostering

MISSION

CTFOF is devoted to community. Their focus is on providing support and resources to current and prospective foster / adoptive families in the North Texas area.

WHAT THEY DO

CTFOF coordinates monthly foster support groups and information meetings. CTFOF has also partnered with Temple Baptist and Hillcrest Church to open the Little Legacies Rooms, which provide items to foster families in need.

VISION

To become a centralized hub and resource center for Foster and Adoptive families in Cooke County, as well as to recruit and support new foster parents in the North Texas area.

IMPACT

Since 2019, they have brought two fully licensed foster families through the process and are currently walking three more through. Monthly support groups and quarterly information meetings have provided education and awareness to foster care throughout their community. One of their favorite moments that year, was being able to help a young mom navigate the proper steps through adoption for a child she could not care for.

Our main “Little Legacies Closet” at Temple Baptist Church and an additional closet managed by Hillcrest Church are open for foster families to meet basic clothing and hygiene needs – with a few FUN items too! They are proud to have assisted over 40 families (foster and low income) with items from these closets.

Why we partner with CTFOF

They say it takes a village to raise a child. We believe that it takes a village to raise up and support foster families, current and aspiring as well!  CTFOF created a support system that gives every parent the confidence to walk out the journey of being or becoming a foster parent… and that is something we can and did get behind.
